Cash & Carry Cashier

Immediate Supervisor: Sales Manager

Position Summary

This person will work in the Maedac Cash & Carry (Sales) as a Cashier receiving walk-in customers purchasing Maedac Supply items along with Maedac Centre customers paying for tyre sales/repairs, quarters for vacuums, and retail propane. The individual will turn lights on, open a designated cash pan as well as the Counterpoint program on the computer; communicate with walk-in customers the items required. The process assisting a customer will be to: write up an order confirmation, assist with customer picking their order, review the order, accept payment for the order and at times assist with taking the order to the customer’s vehicle. In two-hour intervals, review and print order confirmations and deliver to Warehouse bins. End-of-day work includes balancing of the cash pan against the Counterpoint program, writing up the deposit slip information to company standards, and then taking it directly to the Accounting Clerk. They will also maintain a clean and tidy work area at all times. Time management and attention to detail are most important.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Responsible for learning current inventory lines stocked and designated locations. Start of day includes:

  • Turning on computer and invoice any outstanding orders. Answer of telephone orders/ as needed write them in book/ put orders directly into computer.
  • Answer emails that contain orders; requires replying within two hours with 
    information regarding stock and delivery. Then entering them into computer.
  • Enter orders received from Sales team (Sales Rep. & Merchandisers) into the computer as received.
  • Communicate with team if any questions.
  • In two hours, intervals review and print order confirmations in the Counterpoint system and deliver them to the Warehouse designated bins.
  • Assist customers who come into the Cash & Carry. This includes payments for Tire Sales/Repairs, customers for vacuums, and retail propane.
  • Work with Warehouse to prepare pick up orders.
  • Maintain Cash & Carry warehouse cleanliness/appearance by receptacle emptying, tidying of counters and keeping trash off the floors.
  • At all times keep shelves stocked with product, do rotation of inventory, and identify overages/shortages.
  • Notify the Sales Manager of overages/ shortages.
  • Assist with Cash & Carry merchandising, layout, appearance, and ergonomics.
  • Assist with maintenance of equipment, and fixtures of Cash & Carry premises.
  • Attend meetings and contribute to company strategy and policy-making as required.
  • Develop personal skills and capability through on-going training, as provided by the company or elsewhere subject to company approval.


Education and Experience

  • Clean police record
  • High school diploma
  • 1 years’ experience Cashier
  • Valid and clean driver’s license
  • Excel in mathematical skills plus pass Maedac employee test
  • Understanding and daily use of the Point of Sale/ Ordering system: CounterPoint
  • Understanding and use of Microsoft Office programs especially Outlook, Excel, and 
    Word

Communication Requirements

This position requires the individual to read, understand and communicate the 
English language. Must be able to communicate with supervisors and pass information on to other staff. This individual must be able to work in a team environment.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to see (depth perception, near acuity and far acuity), hear, and use of 
    fingers
  • Ability to stand, push/pull, climb, stoop, bend, and kneel for extended periods 

Medium work involves frequent lifting of up to 15-20lbs and on occasion 

Heavier work lifting may be required

  • Ability to work under pressure at times
  • Work in a non-air-conditioned warehouse at times

Hours of work

  • Daily shifts will be of a minimum of eight (8) hours plus a 1/2 hour paid lunch plus 
    two (2) 15-minute breaks to be used one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
  • Weekly hours of work up to 45 Additional hours are to be negotiated with employer
    Saturday work is usual unless indicated by Sales Manager
